As someone who has suffered with borderline personality disorder from around the age of 13 i can assure you every day i am surprised i made it to 33!! The situations i have ended up in ( or put myself in ) its a miracle im still alive , some funny and some not so much lol. Unfortunately BPD impacts our decision-making skills as we can be quite impulsive and risk taking.
Borderline personality disorder is a mental health condition that affects the way a person thinks, feels, and behaves. One of the symptoms associated with BPD is risky behavior. While this behavior can be dangerous, it's important to remember that people with BPD are not defined by their symptoms. They are complex individuals with unique personalities.
If you're struggling with BPD, it's important to seek professional help. There are many effective treatments available, including therapy and medication. Remember, you are not alone and there is hope for recovery.
In the meantime, here are some tips for managing risky behavior:
1. Identify triggers: Pay attention to situations , people or emotions ( this can include substances ) that may trigger impulsive behavior. Once you identify these triggers, you can work on developing coping mechanisms or avoid them altogether.
2. Distract yourself: When you feel the urge to engage in risky behavior, distract yourself with a healthy activity. This could be anything from going for a walk to reading a book.
3. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is a technique that involves being present in the moment. By practicing mindfulness, you can learn to observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment.
Remember, recovery is a journey. It's important to be patient and kind to yourself as you work towards healing. With the right support and treatment, you can learn to manage your symptoms and live a fulfilling life.
